In 1776, during the Revolutionary War, Capt. Nathan Hale, 21, was hanged as a spy by the British in New York.

Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's Social Democrats won one of Germany's closest postwar elections. One year ago: A group of European researchers at the world's biggest physics lab in Switzerland claimed to have measured a subatomic particle, a neutrino, traveling faster than the speed of light, a finding that challenged Einstein's theory of relativity (however, the results have since been refuted by other scientists). American diplomats led a walkout at the U.N. General Assembly as Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (ah-muh-DEE'-neh-zhahd) fiercely attacked the United States and major West European nations as "arrogant powers" ruled by greed and eager for military adventurism. Pope Benedict XVI arrived in Germany on his first state visit to his homeland.

Chrono Blade Looks To Shake Up Facebook Gaming

Every now and then, a game arrives on Facebook that makes the more traditional gamers put down their controller and pay attention. Chrono Blade looks to be one such title, offering an RPG-infused dungeon crawler full of action and adventure on the most unlikely of platforms.

An official launch date has not been announced yet, but the developers at nWay have promised that Chrono Blade will be 100 percent free to play, in your web browser, with no download required. Mobile and web versions are planned for the future and, when it comes to microtransactions, all will be focused on temporary boosts and cosmetics. The core game itself is yours to enjoy for exactly $0.

Most of what I just said isn't all that unique for a Facebook game. What truly sets Chrono Blade apart from the pack is how damn good the game looks. And, again, I'm talking about how good it looks as a game, not as a ?Facebook game.? Check out the guitar and attitude-heavy trailer below.

How sweet was that?! It looks like we have a couple of classes to choose from, a boatload of gear to equip, lots of abilities and combos and, according to nWay, lots of ways to earn experience points and fill out your character's various skill trees.

The enemies in Chrono Blade are a race of aliens who have the ability to bend time and space. Each level will be unique and provide their own assortment of baddies to demolish.

Look for Chrono Blade to go into an early beta on Facebook sometime in the coming months. For the time being, the game doesn't even have a page I can link to, so we'll do our best to keep you updated once a Facebook page goes live.

5 Iraqi soldiers killed in roadside bomb explosion

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Five Iraqi soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb explosion north of Baghdad on Saturday, Iraqi officials said, as suspected Sunni militants, seeking to undermine the Shiite-led government continue to target the country's security forces.

A police official in Salahuddin province said the attack on a two-vehicle military convoy occurred early in the afternoon near the predominantly Sunni town of Duluiyah, 75 kilometers (45 miles) north of Baghdad. Four other soldiers were wounded in the blast, the official said.

Doctors in the town's hospital confirmed the death toll. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Iraqi government, Ali al-Moussawi, said authorities will conduct random searches of Syrian-bound Iranian planes on suspicion that they might be carrying weapons to the war-torn nation.

Iran is an ally to Syrian President Bashar Assad, whose military has battled opposition forces during an 18-month-old uprising that has become a civil war.

U.S. officials have accused Baghdad of allowing Iran to fly weapons to Assad's forces through Iraqi airspace. Iraq denies the claims.

Al-Moussawi told The Associated Press that Baghdad has informed Tehran of their decision to search Iranian planes, flying to Syria, "if we have suspicions on the nature of the cargo."

On Friday, Iraq prevented a North Korean plane from entering its airspace on suspicion it was carrying weapons to Syria.

North Korea is a long time Assad ally.

South Africa Lifts Freeze on Shale Gas Exploration

'The moratorium has been lifted because cabinet is satisfied that with the information now at hand...they will be able to say this is how these issues are going to be mitigated,' Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane said.

In a move condemned by environmentalists who fear that controversial fracking will pollute scarce water sources, South Africa on Friday said it was lifting a freeze on shale gas exploration.

The country's cabinet approved the lifting of a moratorium set down last year on applications to explore for gas while a team probed the effects of hydraulic fracturing drilling known as fracking.

"The moratorium has been lifted because cabinet is satisfied that with the information now at hand...they will be able to say this is how these issues are going to be mitigated," Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane said.

Shell is among several companies wanting to explore for commercially feasible shale gas in the vast semi-desert Karoo which may have one of the largest untapped deposits in the world.

The use of fracking, which blasts a mix of water, sand and chemicals into hard rock to release gas locked inside, has sparked a backlash over environmental fears of water contamination.

"Fracking is just another bad fossil fuel dead end," said Greenpeace.

"Greenpeace condemns the lifting of the moratorium on fracking, particularly given the potential impacts on scarce water resources and substantial renewable energy alternatives."

Shell wants to explore in area of around 90,000 square kilometers, while another company Falcon Oil & Gas is eyeing an area that is one and a half times the size of the famed Kruger National Park wildlife reserve.

This Labor Day, two of our very own Circle D horses were given a place of honor in the Norco Labor Day Parade. They were right at home, because Norco, Calif., is known as Horsetown U.S.A and is home to approximately 17,000 horses.

Brother (the one with the pink nose) and Reggie pulled the Celebrity Marshall carriage, which carried Disneyland Resort Ambassador Jolie Hales and Circle D manager Roy Hungerford. It was the first time in 15 years that Disneyland horses have participated in a municipal event!

Video of subway rider snuggling with stranger goes viral; but gets man in trouble with wife (VIDEO)

A viral video of a sleepy commuter snuggling up to a stranger on a London subway train has been making a lot of people laugh, but the wife of said stranger, who stumbled across the video and thought she'd caught her husband in an act of infidelity.

"I got into trouble with my wife who thought it must be something quite serious," Rakesh Nair told Croydon Today. ?"She didn't think it was funny to begin with. She thought it was a work colleague or someone I knew and started accusing me of these things."

Nair and Paula Jovel were seated next to each other aboard the London Underground's Jubilee line. Nair, head chef at London's Cinnamon Club, was headed home late at night after a long shift at work. Jovel was asleep next to him, when she inadvertently reached over to snuggle up next to Nair. And all of this was happening while a friend of Jovel's was filming with a camera phone across the aisle.

"Most people getting home at the time have been working and are obviously very tired, they don't quite know what's happening," Nair told the paper.

In the video, when Nair realizes what is happening he is startled but laughs and nudges Jovel to wake her up. Jovel jumps back, clearly embarrassed. The two laugh off the incident, which has already been viewed more than 500,000 times on YouTube.

And apparently, one of those half million viewers was Nair's wife. But after an explanation from Nair, she too has come around to seeing the humor in the video.

"I said 'I didn't know the woman,'" Nair said. "She was convinced, eventually, and saw the funny side. All is well."

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A day after announcing that Stephen Strasburg will start only twice more this season, Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson met with the star right-hander to explain the decision.

Johnson was joined by general manager Mike Rizzo and pitching coach Steve McCatty.

Strasburg, who is 15-6 with a 2.94 ERA and leads the National League with 195 strikeouts, had Tommy John surgery to replace an elbow ligament two years ago.

"I'm not sure any of us understand," Johnson said. "But it's the right thing to do."

For months, Johnson has been peppered with questions about the Nationals' plan and he always said the team would limit his innings. Strasburg has thrown 156 1-3. He's averaged just under six innings in his 27 starts.

"I've listened to all the gurus. I've had all the advice. None of it made much sense," Johnson said.

Strasburg is projected to make his final two starts on Friday against Miami and on Sept. 12 in New York.

"It's no secret that Stras is an intense competitor, that he wants to be here, wants to be contributing, wants to be helping and I'm sure it's probably eating him up more than anybody involved in this whole thing because he wants to be here and helping his teammates. He's worked harder than anybody coming back from that surgery, and this what you dream about being a part of. I know how he feels," Johnson said.

The Nationals enter Monday with the best record in the majors and lead the NL East by 6 1-2 games over Atlanta.

"I don't look at this as the only chance you're going to get to be in the postseason, the World Series. This team wasn't just piecemealed together for one year. It was built to last, and we're trying to make sure it lasts," Johnson said.

WOLFEBORO, N.H. (AP) ? Republican Mitt Romney, the first Mormon presidential nominee of a major political party, sat in the Wolfeboro Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday as, one by one, members of his congregation credited him for bringing the faith more into the public eye.

"There has never been as much positive publicity about the church...thanks to the wonderful campaign of Mitt Romney and his family," J.W. "Bill" Marriott, the chairman of Marriott International, said. Marriott was the first in the congregation to take the podium to offer testimony ? examples of his own life experience and how it's affected his faith, a tradition on the first Sunday of every month in the Mormon church.

"Everybody is looking at us and saying, 'Are you as good as the Romneys?'" Marriott said. "Today we see the church coming out of obscurity, and we see that 90 percent of what has been written and said ... 90 percent of it has been favorable," he said. "And that's a great tribute to Mitt and Ann."

Many Americans have long viewed Mormonism skeptically, and the Salt Lake City-based church has fought for decades for recognition and acceptance as a faith.

In the eyes of Mormons gathered here Sunday, Romney winning the nomination has been overwhelmingly positive for their church.

"He's a marvelous ambassador of who we are," said a member of the Archibald family, another large Mormon clan that, like the Marriotts and the Romneys, vacations in Wolfeboro.

The Marriotts and Romneys are close friends; the hotel magnate is a major campaign donor and the candidate used to serve on the board of Marriott International.

Although Romney has long shied away from talking about a faith that has shaped his life, from his childhood to his college years as well as his marriage and business career. He occasionally has recounted his time counseling families who were struggling members of his Boston congregation. He usually doesn't touch on his two years serving as a missionary in France for the church. And he typically doesn't mention that he at one point rose to a rank equivalent to a bishop and presided over a group of congregations.

In recent weeks, Romney has started to open up about his faith and directly mentioned it during his Thursday night acceptance speech after members of his congregation took the convention stage to praise his work in the church. Said Romney that night: "We were Mormons and growing up in Michigan, that might have seemed unusual or out of place, but I really don't remember it that way. My friends cared more about what sports teams we followed than what church we went to."

Mormonism began in the mid-1800s when, according to believers, an angel presented another book of scripture to Joseph Smith, the church's founder, called the Book of Mormon. With 14.4 million members, the church is among the fastest growing in the world, supported by a full-time missionary force of about 55,000 young people.

At church Sunday, Marriott talked about the church's efforts over the years to explain its mission to Americans who don't understand the faith.

He recounted serving on a committee based in Salt Lake City with Romney's father, George Romney, and then later being featured in a "60 Minutes" piece on the Mormon Church. During the interview, Marriott said he was asked about the specific undergarments, which he described as a t-shirt and boxer shorts, that Mormons are encouraged to wear. He said he told interviewer Mike Wallace that he wore the garments, and about a time when he caught fire in a boating accident. His polyester pants burned, though his undershorts were untouched.

Marriott said he told Wallace: "These holy undergarments saved my life."

Later, another church member rose to offer an example of Romney's influence in publicizing the faith.

She recalled a time when she visited a sick church member in the hospital and a non-Mormon nurse asked her why they had come to visit a woman who wasn't a relative.

The woman said she told the nurse she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

And the nurse, clearly recognizing the faith, responded: "Oh, Mitt! Oh, Mormon!"

Sitting in the pews, Ann Romney laughed.

New Delhi, Sep 1 The government Saturday expanded the scope of the expert committee on General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR) to include all non-resident tax payers, even as the committee submitted its draft report to the finance ministry.

The announcement to increase the scope of GAAR committee headed by tax expert Parthasarthi Shome, was made after the panel in its report suggested changes in the Income Tax Act and Rules.

A finance ministry release said: ?The draft report has recommended certain amendments in the Income-tax Act, 1961; guidelines to be prescribed under the Income-tax Rules, 1962; circular to clarify GAAR provisions along with illustrations; and other measures to improve tax administration specifically oriented towards GAAR matters?.

?It has now been decided to expand the scope of the terms of reference of the committee to include all non-resident tax payers instead of only FIIs,? it said.

The government had last month asked the expert committee to examine the applicability of the amendment on taxation of non-resident transfer of assets where the underlying asset is in India, in the context of Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) operating in the country purely for portfolio investment.

The draft report now has been placed in public domain inviting suggestions and opinion of the various stakeholders.

The stakeholders, the release said, can submit their comments by Sep 15.

In view of concerns expressed by investors, the government has already postponed implementation of GAAR by a year to April 2013.

The committee on GAAR was constituted in July to address concerns of foreign and domestic investors on retrospective tax laws.
