Political uncertainty resides in the hearts of many Iowa residents when choosing a solid Republican candidate for president for 2012. Over the past few weeks, allegations of possible sexual misconduct from Herman Cain have dominated headlines.
Speaking with several Iowa residents, I found that this scandal in general has not negatively affected their opinion of Cain.
"The alleged allegation of Herman Cain's sexual misconduct does not adversely affect my opinion dealing with his knowledge base as a presidential candidate. He seems well versed in his knowledge base dealing with the economy, health care and social security. I do not understand his 9-9-9 plan fully but am looking forward to hearing more about it." -- Janella Kohltoff, counselor, Nora Springs
"I watched the debate on Nov. 9 and was very impressed with Herman Cain's answers, especially regarding his alleged sexual misconduct. It's about time the media is chastised for trying to smear a politician's name. Let's not put him on trial for alleged sexual misconduct and begin looking at his policies along with every other candidate to make a knowledgeable choice." -- Ken McDowell, truck driver, Marshalltown
"My opinion of Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan is it won't work. If I understand it correctly, a 9 percent federal sales tax will be added to our 7 percent tax that is present over most of the state. This ups our sales tax to 16 percent. I don't know about you, but my paycheck won't allow for such an increase every time I buy something." -- Tom Deihl, teacher, Mason City
"I can't say I'm Republican or Democrat, but I can say that I like Herman Cain. He speaks from his heart when discussing the people of the United States. I feel he would make a strong candidate against Obama. I would like to see some concrete information dealing with the alleged sexual misconduct. This would definitely change my mind." -- Josh Hoodjer, manager, Ackley
"Herman Cain is a proud, well-spoken man who would make an excellent president. I firmly believe he will overcome the media's report of alleged sexual misconduct. He spoke very firmly during the debate on Tuesday stating that he should not be put on trial for something that is only an alleged allegation. Let's stop worrying about alleged allegations and start listening to his thoughts on how to run the country." -- Jason Harms, general laborer, Iowa Falls
"Why is it people enjoy hearing the worst about people instead of focusing on the positive? I haven't figured that out yet and Herman Cain is one good example. He has been the favorite up to the alleged allegations of sexual misconduct were reported. He has a sound economic plan, health plan and belief in the people of the United States." -- Tracey Jamison, single mother, Montezuma
"I don't care whether Herman Cain was involved in the sexual misconduct or not. It's enough for the media to report it. Because of it, he should have backed out of the presidential campaign. Why would he want to face the public with such scandal?" -- Hollie Burk, housewife, Waterloo
