Baseball/Softball: Cadden, Hudson nip Groton-Dunstable

Sophomore pitcher Pat Cadden pitched a complete-game four-hit shutout with no walks and eight strikeouts on only 73 pitches to help the Hudson baseball team (11-4, 5-2 MWB) to a 1-0, eight-inning Mid-Wach B win over visiting Groton-Dunstable.

Steve Rivela hit a one-out single in the eighth for Hudson.

Keith Diedrich, who pinch ran for Rivela, came around to score on a two-out walk-off triple from Ryan Wardwell.

FRAMINGHAM 12, NEEDHAM 5: Junior third baseman Mark Ruiz pitched six-plus innings of relief, giving up one hit while striking out six as Framingham (8-5, 8-4 BSC) picked up a Bay State Conference win over Needham.

Ruiz, who also had a hit and two runs scored, entered in the third inning with a 7-5 lead.

Kevin Lacy and Lee Tarlin had three hits apiece for the Flyers.

DOVER-SHERBORN 7, MEDFIELD 2: Senior Matt Heinlein went 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases to help Dover-Sherborn (11-5, 9-5 TVL) to a Tri-Valley League win over visiting Medfield.

Senior Brian Hands went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run for the Raiders.

Junior Walker Littlehale got the win for D-S, pitching 5 1/3 innings, while giving up three hits and two earned runs.

MARIAN 1, AMSA 0: Charley Durkin went the distance, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out nine, as Marian (9-6) blanked non-league the Advanced Math and Science Academy.

James Siciliano singled and scored off a Kenny Seitz sacrifice in fly in the fifth inning for the Mustangs.

ASSABET 6, WORCESTER TECH 3: Junior right-hander Corey McNair scattered eight hits for the complete-game win and went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs as Assabet (6-6, 5-4) beat Worcester Tech in a Colonial Athletic League matchup.

Junior left fielder Will Brodeur tripled and drove in two runs for the Aztecs.

OXFORD 5, UXBRIDGE 1 (6 INN.): Mitchell Goldman was 3-for-4 with an RBI as Uxbridge fell to Southern Worcester County League foe Northbridge in a rain-shortened tilt.

SOFTBALL

NATICK 19, RANDOLPH 0 (5 INNS.): Winning pitcher Megan Pini tossed a two-hitter and struck out 11, and had three hits with a double and two RBIs as Natick (10-6) qualified for the postseason for the second time in three years with a victory over visiting Randolph in a non-league game mercy-ruled in the fifth inning.

Catcher Lauren Crowley went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Lexi Harvey had two hits with a triple and two RBIs and Melsssa Costin had a homer and four RBIs for Natick, which scored 10 runs in the fourth.

MEDFIELD 12, DOVER-SHERBORN 5: Danni Vaclavik was 3-for-5 with three runs and Allie Gianci played solid defense and also scored three times as Medfield (8-8) downed Tri-Valley League rival Dover-Sherborn.

For the Raiders, Julia Perlmutter was 3-of-4 with three runs scored.

VALLEY TECH 23, MONTY TECH 1: Bella Picard went 5-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and five RBIs as Valley Tech (10-4, 8-3 CAL) crushed Colonial Athletic League foe Monty Tech.

Megan McFadden reached base six times, collecting three walks, two hits and four runs scored on the day for the Beavers, who scored seven runs in the second inning.

DIMAN VOKE 15, TRI-COUNTY 0: Brenna Blye singled and lined out hard to left as Tri-County (6-9, 5-9 MS) dropped a Mayflower Small league game to Diman Voke.

BLACKSTONE-MILLVILLE 4, WHITINSVILLE-CHRISTIAN 0: Sophomore Mikayla Lambert pitched a complete game (7 innings) two hit shutout, including three walks and six strikeouts to help Blackstone-Millville (9-6, 6-3 DVC) to a Dual Valley Conference win over visiting Whitinsville-Christian.

Lambert also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Fellow sophomore Brittany Wiggin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Chargers.

Junior Korri Laren went 2-for-4 with an RBI for BMR.

ASSABET 18, WORCESTER TECH 5: In a showdown for first place in the Colonial Athletic League, Brenna Boucher struck out 10 in five innings to help put Assabet (12-1 9-1) atop the standings with a victory at Worcester Tech.

In a powerful Assabet offense, Morgan Parmeter went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, Jen Casavant went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs, Jackie Orangio went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and her sister Jocelyn Orangio hit her first varsity homer with a two-run blast.
