Sony Reveals Wonderbook at E3 - Explosion.com

For anyone who didn?t get a chance to see it, last night?s Sony E3 conference was big. The company made a lot of interesting announcements, but the most intriguing came in the form of a new Move peripheral called the Wonderbook.

The Wonderbook is about the size of an illustrated children?s book, and uses the move and PlayStation Eye to present an interactive storybook on screen. The interaction is a lot more than just seeing moving illustrations and turning virtual pages, instead allowing readers to play with the contents of each page and partake in minigames based on events that happen in the story. It provides a real sense of immersion into the book. While no details were given on what we can expect to see as far as upcoming books, Sony made a very exciting announcements as to one of the authors they are currently working with.

The very first book to be released for the Wonderbook is The Book of Spells by none other than J.K. Rowling. The book allows players to learn the famous spells from the Harry Potter universe, as they travel through sections of Hogwarts to become master wizards and witches. After learning each spell, players will also play short minigames to be rewarded with house points, and to unlock new areas to explore through the book. J.K. Rowling wrote entirely new content for the software as well, making it appeal to all fans of the Harry Potter series.

While the Wonderbook isn?t an exciting thing for most gamers, and surely it will be overlooked by a large percentage of the gaming community, it really means great things for Sony. The company is clearly focused on creating content for a wider audience, bringing in educational software in a unique and engaging way, without it feeling forced upon PlayStation 3 owners. Like the move, it is simply a new way to experience interactive entertainment. For more on the Wonderbook, keep checking Explosion.com for all of your E3 updates.
