Maintenance worker dies after Pennsylvania Turnpike accident ...

Highway construction and maintenance can be a dangerous job. These workers put their lives on the line as passenger vehicles and semi trucks whiz by at high speeds. Certainly, if you ask a Philadelphia job site injury attorney, he or she will know the dangers, but recently Philadelphia area commuters were reminded too. A Pennsylvania Turnpike worker was recently killed while performing routine maintenance on the side of the highway.

The worker was killed when a tractor-trailer rolled onto its side in the eastbound lane of the turnpike. According to the spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, it is unclear whether the maintenance worker was inside a vehicle at the time of the accident or whether he was on foot. There was a road-maintenance vehicle near the overturned semi truck that sustained visible physical damage.

The Montgomery County Department of Public Safety reported that two other people were injured in the incident but no further information was available.

Typically, workers injured on the job are able to rely on workers' compensation insurance to cover medical care, wage replacement and even costs of job retraining if necessary. In types of workplace accidents that result in the death, workers' compensation insurance will frequently provide benefits to survivors of the deceased worker.

In a case like that of the road-maintenance worker, a third party was involved in the accident. This opens up another possible avenue of compensation for the worker's family through a wrongful death claim. A trustworthy attorney will be able to sort through the ins and outs of both workers' compensation claims and third-party claims arising from on-the-job accidents.

The days and weeks after a fatal workplace accident can be confusing and scary for the victim's family, so they may be able to begin working through their grief by learning their legal options.
