Chief Financial Officer

The Hun School of Princeton

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the general leadership of the School?s financial operations.? The CFO reports directly to the Headmaster and participates on the School?s Administrative Team.

Among other responsibilities, the CFO:

  • Enlists others in a thorough and thoughtful budget process and ensures prudent budget oversight;
  • Supervises the cash and financial position of the School and manages financial operations;
  • Oversees all banking activities, payroll, benefits, purchasing, and other financial transactions on behalf of the School;
  • Prepares clear and concise financial reports and statements;
  • Directs all insurance and risk management programs and ensures compliance with all government regulations;
  • Conducts long-term financial planning and provides information and ideas to inform successful governance and thoughtful optimization of School resources;
  • Supervises the Director of Facilities, Director of Food Services, Director of Auxiliary Services/Summer Programs, Bookstore Manager, and a Business Office staff consisting of six employees;
  • Attends Board meetings and acts as liaison to the Board?s Finance and Investment Committees, closely communicating with Committee Chairs;
  • Effectively advocates creative initiatives and solutions to enhance the School?s financial health;
  • Assists the Headmaster in finance-related decisions, including salaries, benefits, and staff evaluation;
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Headmaster and provides general support to the School and its leadership.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated:

  • Strong functional competence in accounting, investments, plant maintenance, human resources, technology, construction, strategic planning, and other areas related to finance.
  • Effective organizational and management skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of for-profit and not-for-profit institutions and practices.
  • Strategic and creative thinking, linked to practical and effective implementation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and an inclination to contribute to high-level decisions.
  • A collaborative and collegial personality, well-suited to the School?s culture.
  • Appropriate academic training and preparation, with preference for an advanced degree.
