AUGUSTA, Maine ? A Garland lawmaker charged with pulling a gun on a man in a doughnut shop parking lot is free on bail.

Rep. Frederick Wintle of Garland was released from the Kennebec County Jail on Thursday on $3,500 bail. He is prohibited from possessing any dangerous weapons, can?t have contact with the victim and must submit to random searches. He?s also barred from returning to the State House without express permission from House Speaker Robert Nutting.

Wintle was charged May 21 with criminal threatening and carrying a concealed weapon after allegedly pulling a gun on a man he didn?t know in a Dunkin? Donuts parking lot in Waterville.

Wintle was transferred to a southern Maine psychiatric hospital for evaluation before returning to the jail on Thursday, where he then posted bail.
