This resource contains a series of speaking and writing tasks designed for advanced learners of the new Edexcel Spanish AS specification.

Its aim is to help students of Spanish to express themselves fluently and accurately in the language, both orally and in writing. It follows the same format as the speaking and writing tests in that examination.

There are sixteen titles, each consisting of an authentic text, vocabulary list, questions in Spanish and a writing task. The titles are categorised under four general topic areas; youth, health and sport, the world around us and education.

Thus the resource has one speaking task and one writing task linked to it within each unit, thereby incorporating the two most important skills in the AS exam in terms of marks and percentage weighting. Linking the two skills in this way increases, varies and reinforces the opportunities for genuinely useful practice.

Indeed the skill areas are interchangeable, with the speaking questions available as a base for follow-up writing and the writing bullet points converted into questions for speaking purposes.

All of the speaking tasks are based on a set of ten questions, of which the first two relate directly to the text to ensure a degree of comprehensions.? The following two questions give the opportunity for students to express their thoughts on the topic in question.? The remaining questions are designed so that the conversation moves away into other related areas as naturally as possible.

For the writing tasks, students should aim to produce letters/accounts of at least 200 words, using the correct form of address where appropriate.

The material also has an added dimension in that some of it is presented from a Latin American perspective, in addition to Spanish, thereby heightening and enriching cultural awareness.
